The market is only open on Sundays for a few hours of the day, which means the places tend to get crowded. We went a little later in the day and it was still bustling with people, but not overly crowded.
We got a few items as well as food from Fuful Bakery and The Fat Cactus. The Dubai chocolate strawberries were good, with the price being a bit steep but overall worth the price. Boston Public Market was a fun little stop. It’s definitely on the smaller side — we were through it quicker than expected — but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in personality.

This bookstore has it all! It has a huge selection of books, upstairs and downstairs, a good journal section, a good gift/cute knickknacks type selection, card games, and cafe. The cafe is more like a full restaurant though, because it also has a very large selection of food. I like the seat yourself option for the tables and the QR code in this specific circumstance because it feels like the perfect complement to being able to sit on your own time with your new book purchase and take your time looking through the food options and to be able to order whenever you’re ready. We had a late breakfast there on Saturday morning. The place was not over crowded but there was a lot of people between who was attending the food and who was looking for the right book to buy.
The saff was welcome and helpful.

Of the two bookstore cafes (the other being in Beacon Hill…), I prefer Trident! To book selection is a good mix of new and classic, reference and children. Cute gifts and cards too! I always go straight downstairs to the used milhis section and it never disappoints. Great turnover I rarely see the same books twice and one of the only dedicated cold war subsections I know of. Can't say enough for how enjoyable the basement is to shop in, in general. Relaxing and pleasant browsing with a lot of fun finds, the seconds area is also a great stop. A fun store with so much to see and shop! The bottom floor has the By The Pound pile and costume supplies, while the upstairs is all secondhand clothing.
The second floor is very well organized into men’s/women’s and separates clothes into vintage and contemporary styles. It was all more expensive than I expected from a typical thrift store, but the vintage seemed reasonably priced. They have fitting rooms upstairs too so you can try anything on. With the way it’s organized, this would be a great place to find things when you come in with a specific idea of what you want.
The pay by the pound pile downstairs was fun to look through for a while and had a nice variety of clothes and jackets (mostly women’s). They have mirrors around the pile if you want to try things on. This was my first time at Formaggio, and wow was it a sensory overload! So much pretty and delicious looking food at every corner!
I saw that they had one of my favorite cheeses, Willoughby, for cheaper than Cardullo's so I got that. I asked for another creamy and pungent cheese, and the staff member helping us gave us a sample of a delightfully creamy and pungent goat cheese, so we got that. He also gave us a sample of the 20 month prosciutto, which we got as well. We also picked up the Island creek canned scallops and an Iggy's ficelle from the front.
It was one of our more expensive home smorgasbords, but one of the best! Everything at Formaggio looks amazing -- I really want to try the passionfruit posset and more of their cheeses! I can't say enough good things about my experience at The Ski Monster. I went in looking to round out my quiver with two setups — a true frontside ski/boot combo and a wider ski/boot combo for hiking and skiing softer snow. I had some ideas going in, but Garrett was the absolute pro in helping finalize everything.
He made sure each boot worked perfectly with the ski and the type of skiing I’d be doing — not just selling me on gear, but explaining the “why” behind every choice. He even walked me through a ton of adjustments and fit options so I knew exactly what I was getting — no guesswork or assumptions.
The shop itself? Unreal. It feels like if someone took the best parts of a great ski lodge and built a modern, comfy space around that vibe — super welcoming, spacious, and just a great place to hang out.
On top of that, Garrett applied a bunch of end-of-season discounts I didn’t even know existed — totally unprompted. I purposely waited a full year to write this review because I wanted to see how my new boots held up through an entire season and the follow-up adjustments that come with dialing them in. The verdict: absolutely awesome.
The team at the Ski Monster was fantastic to work with from the start; from the owner, George, down to everyone I interacted with during the process. He made sure I was in the right boot for my foot and skiing style, and he was patient and thorough every step of the way. I came back a couple of times for small tweaks, and each adjustment made the fit better and better until they felt perfect. You can tell they really care about getting it right.
That said, it wasn’t just George—the whole Ski Monster team was awesome. Every time I stopped in, whether it was for adjustments or just to pick something up, the staff was welcoming, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what they do. It’s rare to find a shop where every person you interact with is so invested in making your skiing better, but that’s exactly what you get here. Learned about the Ski Monster from their YouTube channel a few years ago and finally got a chance to pass by today for a boot fitting appointment. Dylan and the team were super friendly and recommended starting with heat molding the boot and coming back for any adjustments after getting a few days in. Since I’m not local, I had picked up my current boots from them online after reading multiple reviews/blog posts by their staff on their website - couldn’t be happier with the purchase. They felt great out of the box and feel incredible now.
The space itself is large with a modern boutique like display of the latest gear - skis, bindings, etc.

WOW! Amazing store and staff. I went in looking for a my first everyday use chefs knife already knowing a little bit about the knife world. Everyone there, especially Tanisha did an amazing job of showing me different options in various styles, prices etc. She was just a huge wealth of information, I was expecting to just try a few knives but left with 10x the knowledge before and a much better idea of what I wanted. Tanisha's love for knifes definitely shows.
They also offer knife sharpening classes(ask via phone/in person) which I am definitely taking advantage of once I get my knife.

I visited the Alo store in the Seaport of Boston to purchase a zip-up hoodie. The first salesperson who greeted me was very friendly. When I couldn't find the hoodie on the floor, she asked a colleague, who brought one out to me. I said I would try it on in the dressing room and the salesperson directed me to a mirror rather than a dressing room so I put my handbag on the floor and tried it on there.

I said yes, and was upset by how carelessly she handled the item.
The register wasn't working, so we had to move to another one. She seemed to notice I was unhappy and zipped up the hoodie before still rolling it into a ball and placing it in the bag. The entire experience felt impersonal and dismissive. Visiting Mr. Sid in Newton was one of the highlights of my month. I went with my parents to find a few nice shirts/pairs of shorts. What I can say with certainty is that you won't find a better experience clothes shopping in any other store in or around Boston. Excellent and attentive service throughout. The staff are all experts in their craft, and extremely personable. We were taken care of by Moussa and Yvan, both of whom have longstanding and remarkable careers in the fashion and clothing industry. After picking out some clothes I went downstairs for a hot lather shave. I had mine with the head barber and GM, Karim. He was excellent; flawless with the shave, and with the calming and friendly personality that separates the exceptional barbers from the okay ones.
After the shave we were treated to drinks and casual conversation at their in-store bar. It was almost hard to leave, we could have stayed there for a while. And it's all due to the people there. You can tell they love what they do, they want to be there, and they genuinely care about making sure you leave with the best-looking and best-fitting clothes you could ask for. They didn't try to upsell, they weren't afraid to recommend something different. All in all, an experience that is becoming rare these days, and certainly one I won't forget. I bought a made-to-order dinner jacket at Mr. Sid for my wedding. Unfortunately, my wife and I were not happy with the result when it arrived. Before ordering, the store did not have a physical example in stock to show us with the same collar and color, but we shared photos with examples of exactly what we wanted and were acknowledged that is what we’d be receiving. The jacket that we received did not look like these examples. It also arrived roughly two weeks before my wedding after we ordered it about ten weeks prior. I ended up having to make a last minute purchase at Ralph Lauren that worked well and did not use the jacket from Mr. Sid. It is still at the store.
I complement the store during the purchase process - the staff was friendly and helpful and I bought additional pieces of clothing that were of high quality. Unfortunately, the store would not honor a return or store credit for any amount of the dinner jacket (only suggesting an unknown discount if I purchased more items), even though I wouldn’t be wearing it for my wedding. After many respectful requests in person, on calls, and over email since first seeing the jacket months ago, no sort of reimbursement or credit has been provided. I have been shopping at Mr. Sid since my first real job out of school when I bought my first dress shirts. They have made custom suits, blazers, and shirts for me and always take care to get the details right. Most recently I had the team at Mr. Sid make a custom suit for my wedding. I brought in a couple of pictures for inspiration of what I wanted. Barry and their Head Tailor, Dale worked with me to turn my inspiration into exactly what I was looking for. We used Ermenegildo Zegna fabric and created a gorgeous three-piece suit. They met all the timelines we had, considering I came in with less notice than typical.
I could not be happier with this suit, and the beautiful shirt we had made as well. When your wedding guests comment on your suit, as much as your bride's dress, you know you did well.
Mr. Sid is such a gem of a store. They have an amazing "old school" barber shop downstairs. Their selection of mens wear, and quality of brands they carry is second to no one in Boston. Got a 3pc tailored suit that I was looking forward to adding to my collection for some time. Sad to say that Mr. Sid was not the right choice for my wallet. At their lowest price point (~$2.5k), Mr Sid is NOT a true bespoke suit shop, despite the impression I received from their advertising. Suits are ordered from a personalized template in Italy and then altered to fit just like could be done with any off-the-rack SuitSupply (only with the added cost of transatlantic shipping). By my metrics, a similar garment and experience could be procured for less, especially in another region of the world (this would be without the added benefits of being part of the Mr Sid family).
Any hitches in the process of designing, ordering, payment, fitting, etc felt as if it was my fault. For instance, I asked for the rise to be let out, only to be talked into it being "good enough" because it wasn't "uncomfortably high".
In the end, I'm a bit unsatisfied with the end product's fabric quality and fit (two non-negotiable factors for me), but I do like the design choices I made. My Suit is full-canvas with Italian fabrics, so I'm hopeful for its longevity. Mr Sid has a reputation for maintaining the suits they sell, so I can't foresee this being an issue.
I would take the opportunity for a return in a heartbeat.

This is a review about their clothing options.
Firstly, the selection is pretty limited. They don’t have all sizes of the clothes you see on the racks(not even S,M and L). What you see on the racks, are the only ones available. Most of the clothes are smaller in size. The fitting in the bust area is very limited in almost all the clothes I tried on 😅
Secondly, if you buy something and change your mind, they don’t refund. They give you store credit instead(they only have this one shop in the country). This is very difficult if you’re traveling from another town :(
Additionally, the clothes here are definitely not cheap. The dress I was returning costs $220.
Thirdly, I honestly felt that their behavior was a little snooty, when I came back to exchange my dress to something else. Me and my kids and their dad went to the museum of science. Afterwards we walked by a shop I just had to go in. They had a huge selection of gorgeous clothing, exquisite items and jewelry. I love Uvida, I have gotten plants, refillables, and done the clothing swap following them from their move out of the North End and back again. I have been coming to this store for years, when they were in their first location in the North End. I even schlepped my ass to Brookline when they briefly moved there. Wonderful and lovely fish market. People are super friendly and willing to explain the differences. I got the king salmon and swordfish. Super fresh and delicious when I cooked! Prices are slightly higher than other fish markets (seafood prices are high in general).
Parking can be tricky. Street parking so you may or may not need to walk a bit. The store is local favorite and it was crowded when I went. So expect to wait a few minutes to order. They have amazingly fresh seafoods! I got mussels from them last week, and I appreciate how the staff made sure that all the mussels were alive when being sold. The mussels from New Deal are also way fresher than those you’d get at Whole Foods. I made white wine garlic mussels dishes twice in a week and the quality of mussels from New Deal is distinctly better. I will never buy mussels at Whole Foods again (half of the bag I bought were dead mussels, and they did not taste fresh at all).

I stopped by for the first time yesterday and was instantly impressed. This place is gorgeous! Clean, beautifully laid out, and stocked with top-quality seafood. I picked up some swordfish and scallops. At first, I thought the prices were a bit steep, and while the staff told me the scallops were sashimi-grade, I wasn’t entirely convinced… but figured I’d give them a shot.
Let me tell you, the moment I got home, I knew I had stumbled upon something special. No smell. Not from the scallops, not from the swordfish — just pure, fresh ocean goodness.
Then I tasted the scallops raw… and WOW. Hands down, the best I’ve ever had. Sweet, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth perfection. I pan-seared both the scallops and swordfish and still couldn’t believe it. My house didn’t smell like fish at all! I even left and came back in just to double check because I was in shock 😂. The quality here is unmatched. This is, without a doubt, the freshest, cleanest seafood I’ve had in the area. Safe to say I’ll be a regular. I’m already planning my next trip back!

Some of my favorite places to visit are bookstores. Here is why you should visit this one:
1: plenty of affordable books to select from. This place is a treasure hunt and it is so easy to get lost in everything this store has to offer.
2. On days with no rain the lot becomes and open air book market!
3. 3 floors of books. The sections make it easy to find what you are looking for, but again, there is so much to look at you should deticate time to explore.
4. There is a good selection of rare books! These are located on the 3rd floor.
5. Kind staff, I enjoyed the interactions I had with them and they were helpful.
